Hi there, I'm Yvonne. As a registered nurse, when I got pregnant, I dove into the books and knew exactly what to expect during each week of pregnancy. I thought I knew it all. But, the one thing I failed to do was prepare my body for pregnancy. Boy, was I in for a rude awakening?
I struggled during each pregnancy. After my last delivery, my hormones were all over the place. Sleep deprivation got the best of me to the point of crippling exhaustion. My thoughts were racing, and my anxiety was through the roof. I could barely take care of myself, let alone my baby. Before I knew it, I was diagnosed with severe postpartum depression and placed on medications that led to debilitating side effects.
I failed to realize how important preparing my body for pregnancy was. As I looked back, all the clues were present that my body wasn't healthy enough to support each pregnancy. Therefore, each pregnancy weakened my body, and postpartum depression hit me hard and fast with my last delivery. I suffered horribly from the medication side effects and felt I traded one problem for another.
After being told I would have to continue the medications for the rest of my life, I quickly realized it was time for a different approach. I switched gears and started exploring Eastern Medicine to find a solution to help my body heal versus settling for a bandaid approach. With my Ayurvedic physician's guidance, we addressed my long-standing digestive issues, improved my nutrition, and implemented healthy lifestyle habits to support my body's needs. Taking this approach was the catalyst for healing my body, allowing me to ditch the medications once and for all. It was a transformative journey that opened my eyes to a new perspective on health and wellness.
After my healing journey, I decided to further my education by obtaining my certifications with Kerala Ayurveda Academy, The Institute of Integrative Nutrition, Food Matters Institute Nutrition Program, and as a Gut Thrive Practitioner. With my training, I support women with a holistic approach towards health so they don't have to suffer the challenges I once did. By improving their health, we prepare their bodies to thrive during pregnancy and postpartum recovery and provide a healthy foundation for their baby's development.
